A long-time favorite business reference publisher, Kiplinger's provides a lot of free content online. The site includes articles from their Personal Finance Magazine , daily business news (archived to April, 1996), stock quotes, funds data, yields and rates from credit cards to home equity, financial calculators of all sorts, a small annotated directory of other business sites, and an excellent advice column about Kids & Money .


Magazines and Newsletters on the Web (Women-focused)
A briefly annotated, alphabetical listing of periodicals offering free online content. "Web pages of periodicals vary considerably. Most describe the publications and provide recent tables of contents, subscription information, and sample articles in full-text. Some are online 'zines with no print equivalent" and some are defunct. Maintained by the University of Wisconsin System Women's Studies Librarian.


MagPortal.com
This current awareness resource helps users stay abreast of recent free magazine articles available online. Indexing some 140 periodicals, it organizes the articles in twelve categories, including Business; Computers; Education; Entertainment; Family; Finance; Health; Internet; Pets; Science; Society, Politics, and Culture; and Sports. These are further subdivided into subcategories. Articles are abstracted and links are provided to the full text. The site is also searchable by keyword.

Mature Resources is a free internet monthly magazine covering a range of subject of interest to baby boomers through senior citizens. Topics include health and wellness, travel, leisure, retirement, and financial planning.


Narrative Magazine
This online magazine features fiction and nonfiction material, including the work of established writers such as Rick Bass, Joyce Carol Oates, Jane Smiley, and Tobias Wolff, as well as pieces by lesser-known writers. Includes an archive back to 2003. Free registration is required.


National Geographic


New England Journal of Medicine
"Each week, the New England Journal of Medicine presents major, previously unpublished research results, clinical findings, updates, and opinions. The full text of the Journal is available online for all subscribers to the print version. This online magazine contains a wealth of information about all types of upholstery. Free basic and advanced instructions are available for furniture, automobile, and marine upholstery projects. Links include wholesale and retail suppliers of tools, fabrics, and equipment. There is also a bookstore, a classifieds section for buying or selling upholstery businesses and equipment, and a discussion board for questions about upholstery.


U.S. News Online
This site from US News and World Report contains a lot of free content. In addition to the online version of the weekly print magazine (archived and searchable to early 1996), there's the enormous Education section covering all aspects of colleges and careers.


iVillage.com: The Women's Network
iVillage functions as an online women's magazine, support group, and community. Issues of home, health, and happiness (including recipes and a personalized horoscope) are coupled with advice on how to succeed in business. Register for free membership and you will also be eligible to establish an e-mail account and participate in contests. Note: the advertising can be obtrusive.


Vault.com
The site offers information for job seekers and researchers needing insight into a company's corporate culture. The site provides employer profiles, message boards, job listings, and a newsletter. Free online access to the full text of its industry guidebooks is available to registered members. Vault.com membership is free. The Career Store sells books, magazines, and online career development courses.
